Unlock savings and benefits: A guide to GM Rewards
By Taylor Provost / 12/30/2025 / Your Account
Is there anything quite as thrilling as getting a new vehicle? For me, the opportunity to get a new car is a milestone in one’s life, and whether you lease or buy, it’s a way to start fresh and begin a new era. But what I found out when I bought my latest GM vehicle is that it can also be a way to start earning — rewards, that is.
What is GM Rewards?1
GM RewardsTM is a loyalty program designed to reward customers for interacting with General Motors and GM Financial services, including MyAccount, General Motors Insurance, GM-backed Protection products and through select purchases. Whether you’re financing, leasing or simply buying GM parts and accessories, GM Rewards lets you earn points that can be redeemed for valuable benefits.
Here’s a brief overview of GM Rewards benefits you can expect:
- Earn points for loyalty. From purchasing GM Genuine parts, eligible accessories or GM Certified Service to using your GM Rewards™ Mastercard® from Barclays2 to multiply points, most interactions with the brand can add to your points total. Pro tip: You can earn 30,000 bonus points if you spend $1,000 in the first 90 days of opening a GM Rewards Mastercard account.3
- Redeem for savings. Use your points to make payments toward your GM Financial account or for discounts on vehicle maintenance, subscriptions for things like an OnStar plan, or even future leases or purchases.
- Tailor the program to you. Whether it’s through routine vehicle care or special campaigns, it’s a program designed to amplify your ownership experience in a way that best fits your lifestyle.
Ways to earn GM Rewards points
Purchasing my new GM vehicle earned me one point for every $5 spent, which was just the beginning. GM Rewards is focused on everyday transactions, so I found I could earn benefits effortlessly. For example, after I bought my new vehicle, I decided to customize it with heavy-duty floor liners from GM Accessories to protect my new SUV from messy post-dog-park paws. That earned me three points for every dollar I spent.4
While at the dealership, I found out that as a GM Rewards member I could earn bonus points by setting up MyAccount to manage my payments and stay connected to GM Financial. With the MyAccount Welcome Bonus, I learned I could earn 1,000 bonus points by completing four quick actions5:
- Downloading the GM Financial Mobile app for easy account management on the go.
- Going paperless. I opted to get email notifications when digital statements are ready in MyAccount online or in the app.
- Setting up Auto Pay. Automated recurring monthly payments deducted from my bank account ensures my payments will be on time every time.
- Getting text alerts. I also chose to receive important account notifications through text.6
And because I’m a member, the points appeared in my GM Rewards member account once those easy tasks were checked off my to-do list.
Soon, I was eager to see where and how I could redeem my points.
How to use GM Rewards Points
One of my favorite things about GM Rewards is how simple it is to redeem points. The versatility gives me many ways to use my points:
- Applying points toward my GM Financial account balance.
- Discounts on GM Genuine parts, maintenance and accessories.
- Subscription savings for OnStar plans or other services.
- Exclusive access to GM events.
From the moment I earned my first GM Rewards points, I was excited to use them. When my new car was due for an oil change, I took it back to my GM dealership and used points to cover service from the Certified Service experts.7
I also began using my GM Rewards Mastercard for necessities like groceries and gas, earning me three times the points for every dollar spent.3 Then, once the holidays rolled around, I logged in to MyAccount and used some of those points toward my GM Financial account balance so I could budget a little more for gifts. And since I knew my sister was planning to get a new car, I set aside some points to transfer to her GM Rewards account as a present to her, and she used them to help with her new car purchase.8
Redeeming is as easy as logging in to MyAccount or talking directly with my dealership, but there are other ways to redeem as well. The expiration dates are clearly listed in my GM Rewards member account, and I can track my balance online without a hitch.
GM Rewards makes financing my GM vehicle feel like joining a welcoming community, and every redemption makes ownership more enjoyable. I can check my points balance through MyAccount, and I’m already planning future redemptions to cover maintenance costs and upgrades. I’m also saving my points for potential discounts on future GM purchases, like an OnStar subscription or a GM-backed protection product. Loyalty has never felt so rewarding.
