How to use GM Rewards points toward your GM Financial balance
By Taylor Provost / 09/16/2026 / Your Account
Did you know that as a GM Rewards member you can redeem the points you earn toward your GM Financial account balance?1 Whether you’re paying off a car loan or lease, those points can go directly toward reducing your balance. Keep in mind, though, that they are a supplement — not a substitute — for your monthly payment. You must still make your scheduled monthly payment on time to keep your account in good standing, and a minimum of 500 points is required to redeem.
Follow the guidance below to make the most of your GM Rewards points while staying on top of your financial goals.
Can you use GM Rewards points toward your car payment?
Yes, GM Rewards points can be redeemed toward your GM Financial account balance.1 Once redeemed, points are applied directly to your balance, offering a helpful supplement to your financial obligations.
For example, if you’ve earned points through Accessories purchases2 or GM Certified Services,3 you can apply them toward lowering the balance of your account.
How to redeem points toward your balance
Redeeming GM Rewards points toward your GM Financial account is quick and straightforward. Here’s how you can do it:
- Enroll in GM Rewards.4 If you’re not already a GM Rewards member, sign up for free through the GM Rewards website. Once set up, your points will automatically accrue based on your qualifying GM purchases.
- Log in to MyAccount. Access your GM Financial MyAccount via the website or GM Financial Mobile app. This is where all your account management and point-redemption actions take place.
- Check your point balance in MyAccount. Make sure you have at least 500 points available. Points can only be redeemed if you meet this minimum requirement.
- Redeem your points. Follow the prompts in MyAccount to apply the points toward your GM Financial balance. You’ll be able to select how many points you’d like to apply, and the selected points will automatically be deducted from your GM Rewards Member account. Once complete, the redemption will be reflected as a balance reduction on your loan or lease, typically within a few business days.
And that’s it! Remember, while redeeming points is a great way to reduce the amount you owe, it’s still your responsibility to make your scheduled monthly payments on time.
What your points are worth toward your balance
When you redeem your points, the value of the points as set by GM is applied to your balance.
