Congratulations to the Peterborough Collections Centre for its nomination and receipt of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards for Employer of the Year besting BOATsmart!, a boating safety educator, and Peterborough Regional Health Centre to receive the title. The annual awards recognize local businesses that have demonstrated a passion for excellence and enrich the local Peterborough community.

Peterborough Employee of the Year 2013, Business Excellence Award

"The most common question I receive when I meet new employees is, 'GM Financial seems too good to be true! When will the honeymoon end and reality set in?'" said Michael Allman, senior vice president collections Canada. "My answer is always the same: It's up to you. Your attitude each day determines your work environment. Keep a positive attitude and engage daily, and you will continue to make this a special place to work."

Peterborough team leaders Stephanie Drumm, Tim Parmiter, Christine Gillespie and Jennifer Disbrow spearheaded the campaign assembling an impressive submission package, which included testimonials from team members across the Centre.

"I jumped at the opportunity to represent GM Financial to the Peterborough community because I truly love working here," Disbrow said. "We were blown away by the testimonials we received; they captured the passion and loyalty of the great people who come to work here every day. I was hired in 2001 as a collections team member. Since then, I have developed leadership skills through the ongoing support of a company that values me as an individual."

Here's what the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce had to say about us: People are GM Financial's heartbeat. The company fosters team members’ confidence, communication, collaboration and critical thinking through various programs that have become core to their winning culture. Their Leadership Development initiatives, which include training programs, peer coaching and performance appraisals, prepare employees for long-term success. GM Financial contributes to community organizations by offering employees paid volunteer time and sponsoring three Signature Events annually: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Salvation Army and United Way. The company encourages wellness with its benefits plan that includes a 100-percent-company-paid package. GM Financial strives to make great employees, partners, neighbours and citizens.

"This is a great place to work because GM Financial truly cares about its people," Allman acknowledged. "I always knew that, but I am even prouder that all of Peterborough knows it now too."

The Peterborough submission team received their award at a recognition dinner on Oct. 18. View the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce's Employer of the Year finalists' video here.
